If the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers meet in the NBA playoffs, take the over and load up on the popcorn. In as entertaining a regular-season game as you’re likely to see this season, Kobe Bryant went off to the tune of 52 points as the Lakers edged the Mavericks, 108-104, in overtime at the Staples Center on Sunday.
Bryant scored 30 of his points after the third quarter as the Lakers rallied to force overtime then outscored the Mavs 15-11 to secure the victory. Los Angeles has won 11 of its last 12 games and rebounded from a loss to Portland on Friday.
The defeat was another setback for Dallas against a top Western Conference rival. The Mavericks were upended by San Antonio earlier in the week, but they beat the point spread in that game and did so against the Lakers, too. Los Angeles was favored by 6.5 and the betting total went over 208.
Dirk Nowitzki finished with 30 points and 13 assists and Jason Kidd had 15 points and 12 assists for Dallas.
In other NBA action on Sunday:
Cleveland 95, Chicago 86: LeBron James broke an 83-83 tie with six points in a row as the Cavaliers pulled away from the Bulls in Cleveland. James totaled 37 points for the Cavaliers, five-point favorites at home.
