The No. 14 Nebraska Cornhuskers can shoot themselves up the rankings and destroy the No. 1 USC Trojans' chances at a National Title this Saturday. For them, the game is huge.
"It's tough not to be extra juiced because it is the No. 1 team," Nebraska guard Matt Slauson said. "It's a big game."
Despite the magnitude of the matchup for both the Huskers and Trojans, Nebraska coach Bill Callahan is treating this game just like any other.
"You don't get too high and don't get too low in terms of your approach," Callahan said. "It doesn't really matter who you are playing. You focus on what you have to get done and accomplish. The opponent is the opponent. We have great respect for whoever comes in here."
The Huskers' shot at pulling off the upset are in the hands of quarterback Sam Keller. Before transferring to Nebraska Keller was QB for the Arizona State team that nearly upset USC in 2005. He led the Sun Devils to a shocking 21-3 halftime lead, but eventually lost 38-28 after throwing four interceptions in the second half. If he's in the same situation on Saturday, he doesn't plan on making the same mistakes.
"I might have thought of myself as somewhat bulletproof," said Keller. "You just have to be mistake-free."
"You have to take what they give you. You have to be very smart. But you also have to be very aggressive. You have to take shots at them because they are very good."
No. 14 Nebraska faces No. 1 USC at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC. The Cornhuskers are +10 homedogs in the Bodog Sportsbook.
