In Final Four action Saturday night, the North Carolina Tar Heels defeated the Villanova Wildcats 83-69; and the Michigan State Spartans stunned University of Connecticut fans by beating the Huskies 82-73. On Monday night, the Tar Heels and the Spartans will again take to the hardwood at Ford Field in Detroit, this time to determine the 2009 NCAA Tournament Champion.
But for a few special moments before the action gets underway, all eyes will be on Larry Bird and Earvin "Magic" Johnson as they deliver the game ball.
Thirty years ago these two basketball legends played against each other in the Final Four title game, with Magic's Michigan State team coming out on top over Bird's Indiana State team. That was (and still is) the most-watched game in college basketball history.
Let's see if history will be made this year, as two very worthy opponents get ready to play the biggest game of their lives. This is it, folks. It's Michigan State vs. North Carolina. You can catch the game live on CBS @ 7:15 PM Mountain Daylight Time.
Oddsmakers currently have the Tar Heels listed as 8-point favorites versus the Spartans, while the game's total is sitting at 153.
But bettors should note that for the Spartans, this is as close to home court advantage as it gets.
