The Patriots are unstoppable.
Tom Brady completed 29 of 38 passes for 306 yards with three passing and two rushing touchdowns, in a unbelievable 52-7 rout of the Washington Redskins.
Like most of their games this season the Patriots were well on their way to their eighth victory by halftime, a six-yard pass from Brady to Randy Moss put the Patriots up 24-0 with 17 seconds remaining in the half.
New England's defense made life miserable all day for Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell, who lost three fumbles on the day while completing 21-of-34 passes for 197 yards with one TD and one interception.
The Redskins were shutout most of the contest until Campbell threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Chris Cooley with three minutes left in the contest.
The Pats put the nail in the coffin in the third quarter when Rosevelt Colvin ran back a fumble to put them up 38-0, but even then the Patriots didn't show any mercy. In the fourth quarter on fourth-and-1 at the Redskins 7, they went for it rather than try for a field goal. Brady got the first down on a QB sneak then threw his third touchdown pass to Wes Welker with 9:06 left to put them up 45-0. Backup QB Matt Cassell would get in on the action and run for a TD in garbage time to give them 52.
The Patriots were 17-point favorites in the contest and easily covered. They also went over the 47-point total.
San Diego 35, Houston 10
The Chargers routed the Houston Texans 35-10 behind stellar performances by Phillip Rivers, Antonio Gates and cornerback Antonio Cromartie.
Rivers had just 130 passing yards but threw three TDs, two of which went to Gates - who finished with 92 receiving yards. Cromartie recovered a fumble for a touchdown and had two interceptions, one of which he returned 70 yards for another TD.
The Houston offense struggled with turnovers for the second week in a row. They had five total, including four interceptions - two from Matt Schaub and two from Sage Rosenfels. After having one of the better starts in franchise history, the Texans have lost three games in a row.
The Chargers easily covered as 10.5-point favorites in the contest.
New Orleans 31, San Francisco 10
Drew Brees passed for 336 yards and hit Marques Colston with three of his four touchdown throws in the Saints' 31-10 win over the 49ers on Sunday. New Orleans won its third straight, and San Francisco lost its fifth in a row.
Alex Smith returned to the 49ers lineup, and even had one of his better outings with 190 passing yards and one TD, but the Saints offense was too potent, they were leading the Niners 24-3 by halftime.
"It was fast-paced, and we were very efficient," Brees said. "I guess we could have been a little better on third down, but it felt like we didn't have many third downs. Mostly it felt like a lot of first downs. Our defense did a good job, and you just feed off each other."
Reggie Bush chipped in with 64 rushing yards off of 10 carries and 49 yards receiving.
The Saints were three-point favorites in the contest.
Jacksonville 24, Tampa Bay 23
Jacksonville QB Quinn Gray struggled throughout his first start in the NFL, however, he was able to throw key completions to help the Jaguars defeat the Buccaneers 24-23.
Gray was just 7 of 16 for 100 yards with one TD but he had a a lot of help from the Jaguars defense. They forced three turnovers and scored a touchdown to help the inexperienced quarterback.
Bucs QB Jeff Garcia had his worst outing of the season. He was 19 of 41 for 267 yards and threw three INTs, one of which was returned for a TD.
The Jaguars were four-point underdogs in the contest.
Buffalo 13, New York Jets 3
The Bills had trouble moving the ball all afternoon, but were able to get their second-consecutive victory with one amazing catch by Lee Evans.
On a bomb from quarterback J.P. Losman, Evans tugged the ball away from Jets rookie cornerback Darrelle Revis and flew into the end zone for an 85-yard touchdown with 3:38 left to help lead the Bills to a 13-3 victory over New York.
Losman had to enter the game with 5:07 remaining when rookie QB Trent Edwards had to leave with a sprained wrist after being hit on an incomplete pass to Robert Royal.
"The X-rays came back negative," said Edwards, whose wrist was wrapped. "We'll reevaluate it tomorrow."
Jets QB Chad Pennington had another rough outing, and eventually was replaced by second-year QB Kellen Clemens with 3:32 remaining. Pennington was 13 of 20 with 106 passing yards and zero TDs, but Clemens didn't fare any better - he threw for just 67 yards and two INTs in limited action.
After starting the year 0-3 the Bills have won three of their last four. They were three-point underdogs in the contest.
