When Washington Redskins coach Joe Gibbs made the controversial decision last year to bench veteran quarterback Mark Brunell in favor of the youngster from Auburn, Jason Campbell, the results were mixed.

Campbell showed instants of offensive flair, throwing for at least one touchdown in each of his seven starts. However, he also threw six interceptions and struggled to complete a high percentage of his passes. More importantly, the Redskins lost five of those seven games, finishing the season at a woeful 5-11.

This year, the ‘Skins have leapt out to a 3-1 record and Campbell is a big reason why. Sunday against Detroit, he had his best game as a professional, completing 23 of 29 attempts for 248 yards and a pair of touchdowns with no interceptions. And he did it without receiver Santana Moss, who missed the game with a strained groin. Not to mention, Antwaan Randle El missed the second half with a strained hamstring. Both could be back this week, though Randle El missed practice Friday .

"I felt like Jason, it was his best game for us to this point," said Gibbs after his team’s 34-3 blowout of the Lions. "It was great to see him step up. He was very consistent with his throws. The times when things weren't there, he did a great job of either moving out of the pocket or taking a checkdown."

The Redskins (3-1) travel to Green Bay (4-1) Sunday to play a Packers team that's coming off its first loss of the season, 27-20 to the Chicago Bears.

"We need to clean our own house right now," said Packers coach Mike McCarthy. "It's sloppy and we need to get it cleaned up."

Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre was 29-for-40 for 322 yards against the Bears, but was 10-for-18 for 79 yards in the second half.

"We got out of a rhythm," said Favre, who threw two interceptions against Chicago. "It just wasn't clicking."

Oddsmakers currently have the Packers listed as 3-point favorites versus the Redskins, while the game's total is sitting at 40 ½.
