Deja vu, anyone?

In a scene reminiscent to their overtime loss against Denver last week, the Oakland Raiders defeated the Cleveland Browns on the strength of a well-timed Lane Kiffin timeout.

A week after a late timeout wiped out Sebastian Janikowski's game-winning kick for Oakland, Kiffin successfully used the same strategy to help the Raiders beat the Browns 26-24 Sunday when Tommy Kelly blocked Phil Dawson's last-second field goal attempt. LaMont Jordan ran for 121 yards and a go-ahead touchdown late in the third quarter after Daunte Culpepper relieved an injured Josh McCown to lead the Raiders.

In other afternoon NFL action:

  • Jacksonville 23, Denver 14 - the Jacksonville Jaguars slowed Travis Henry and the league's most efficient offense by turning them into sideline spectators in a 23-14 win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Fred Taylor rushed for 84 yards as the Jaguars (2-1) controlled the clock for nearly 39 minutes in shutting down the league's top tailback. David Garrard was solid both through the air and with his feet, throwing for 154 yards while running for 52.
  • Carolina 27, Atlanta 20 - The Carolina Panthers overcame a 361-yard, two-touchdown performance by Joey Harrington and an injury to Jake Delhomme to beat the Falcons 27-20. DeShaun Foster rushed 122 yards and scored a couple of TDs, but Carolina (2-1) may have lost its quarterback for a while. Delhomme injured his throwing arm in the third quarter and didn't return.
