NHL Betting: Bruins Topple Flyers, 6-3

The Flyers aren’t called the Broad Street Bullies for nothing. On Oct. 27, the Bruins’ Patrice Bergeron was seriously injured after he was driven into the boards by Philadelphia’s Randy Jones. Bergeron hasn’t played since because of a concussion.

His teammates faced the Flyers for the first time since that incident Monday night and didn’t let Bergeron down.

Red-hot Glen Murray scored two goals and Marc Savard had a four-point night in a 6-3 whipping of the Flyers in Philly. The Bruins were underdogs and paid a healthy +140 on the puckline (meaning a winning hockey bet of $100 would net $140). The betting total was over 5.5 goals.

Although there were plenty goals, no one on the Bruins got into a fight with Jones. The teams will meet again, though, and Jones will no doubt have to keep his head up.

Savard had one goal and three assists while Glen Metropolit, Peter Schaefer and Chuck Kobasew had the other Boston goals.

In other NHL action on Monday:

Dallas 3, New York Islanders 2:
The Stars looked like the Stars of old as Mike Modano and Marty Turco led them to a solid win on the road. Modano scored the winning goal 35 seconds into overtime and Turco made 23 saves to pay off Dallas backers at +130 on the puckline. Modano’s goal was his second of the game.

Buffalo 3, Washington 1: The Sabres won their fifth in a row as Jochen Hecht scored two goals and added an assist in Washington, D.C. Buffalo was a -120 favorite.

Edmonton 3, Columbus 1: The Oilers paid +105 as home underdogs and rookie Andrew Cogliano’s fifth goal stood up as the winner.
