NHL Betting: Old Hasek Shows Up to Lead Red Wings to Victory

On a night devoted to old-time hockey, Dominik Hasek looked like his vintage self.

The Dominator’s been dominated most of this season and is considered by many NHL observers as the Red Wings’ No. 2 netminder behind Chris Osgood. Hasek, though, looked himself Tuesday night as he backstopped the Red Wings to a 4-1 victory over the Canadiens in Montreal.

The Red Wings paid -150 on the puckline (meaning a winning hockey bet of $150 would net $100). The betting total was under 5.5 goals.

Hasek hadn't started in 12 days after losing three straight, but he finished with 15 saves for the win. Meanwhile, Pavel Datsyuk led the Red Wings’ offense, scoring two goals after corralling Montreal turnovers. Detroit has won four in a row while the Habs lost their third in a row.

Prior to the game, the Canadiens honored the rivalry between the two teams by welcoming legendary names to take part in a puck drop. Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay, Alex Delvecchio, Marcel Pronovost and Marcel Dionne represented the Wings while Jean Beliveau and Dickie Moore were among the Canadiens’ Hall of Famers who took the ice.

In other NHL action on Monday:

Tampa Bay 4, Ottawa 3: The woes continued for the Ottawa Senators, who fell behind 2-0 recovered to force a shootout then lost in Florida. The loss was the Senators’ seventh in a row. Tampa Bay paid +125 as a home underdog.

Toronto 3, Nashville 1: Wade Belak’s first goal in four years helped lift the Maple Leafs to a win at the Air Canada Centre. Toronto paid -130 at home.
