NHL Betting: Red Wings Win Eighth Straight

The Detroit Red Wings put a scare into their backers Wednesday night, but managed to come away with a win in the end.

The Red Wings blew a 2-0 lead in the third period but salvaged a 3-2 shootout victory at home over the Nashville Predators. Detroit was favored by -260 on the puckline (meaning a winning hockey bet of $260 would net $100) and the betting total was under 5.5 goals.

In the shootout, Pavel Datsyuk and NHL scoring leader Henrik Zetterberg scored against Predators goalie Chris Mason. The victory was the Red Wings’ eighth in a row. Chris Osgood stopped 28 shots for the win.

The Red Wings allowed Nashville to force overtime on a J.P. Dumont goal with 1:24 to play in the third.

In other early NHL action on Wednesday:

Philadelphia 3, Pittsburgh 1: Joffrey Lupul, Jeff Carter and Mike Richards scored as the Flyers won on the road as +120 underdogs.

Buffalo 2, Boston 1: Clarke MacArthur, who had been leading the AHL in scoring, scored with 1:44 to play in overtime in his first game of the season with the Sabres. Buffalo paid -155 at home.

Chicago 5, Columbus 2: The Blackhawks improved to 8-4-2 on the strength of four unanswered goals in the third period at the United Center. Chicago paid -115.

Tampa Bay 3, Florida 1:
Martin St. Louis and Vincent Lecavalier scored goals as the Lightning beat their in-state rivals in Tampa. The ’Ning were favored at -140.
