NHL Betting: Senators Hold Off Penguins to End Losing Streak

Lately, the Ottawa Senators have been able to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins and nobody else. The trend continued Saturday as the defending Eastern Conference champions dropped the Penguins, 5-4, in Ottawa.
Daniel Alfredsson had two goals, including a short-handed tally, and set up Dany Heatley’s winning goal as the Senators snapped a three-game skid.
Ottawa paid -180 on the puckline (meaning a winning hockey bet of $180 would net $100) while the betting total went over six goals. It was the Senators’ first win since Bryan Murray took over as coach following the firing of John Paddock on Wednesday.
The Senators’ next test is a Stanley Cup rematch with the Anaheim Ducks on Monday. Should they be able to put back-to-back wins together, they could be set for a run. But that may not be easy. Ottawa still struggled defensively against Pittsburgh and continued to get shoddy goaltending. Martin Gerber allowed four goals on 29 shots.
A bright spot for the Senators was newcomer Martin Lapointe, who scored his first goal since being acquired from Chicago on Tuesday.
In other NHL action on Saturday:
Boston 3, Atlanta 2: The red-hot Bruins won their sixth game in a row when Phil Kessel scored the only goal in a shootout. The sophomore forward beat Johan Hedberg as heavily favored Boston paid -210 at home. Bruins rookie David Krejci scored for the third straight game.
Philadelphia 4, New York Islanders 1: Martin Biron made 33 saves and Mike Knuble had a goal and two assists as the Flyers won their third game in a row. Philadelphia paid -105 in Long Island, N.Y.
