The Dallas Stars hadn’t lost five games in a row since 2003 and they didn’t want to reach that low point again Monday night. Turns out they had the recipe to avoid it: a home game against the Minnesota Wild.
The Stars improved to 6-0-2 at home in their last eight games versus the Wild with a 3-1 victory. Marty Turco, who had been shelled in his most recent start, made 18 saves to give Dallas backers a -150 payday (meaning a winning hockey bet of $150 would net $100).
The Dallas attack was led by Antti Miettinen’s two goals and rookie Matt Niskanen’s fourth tally of the season. Mike Ribeiro and Brenden Morrow had two assists each to get the Stars back into first place in the Pacific Division.
In other NHL action on Monday:
Edmonton 4, New York Islanders 0: Ales Hemsky and Shawn Horcoff both had a goal and an assist and Mathieu Garon made 35 saves for the shutout in Edmonton. The Oilers paid -120.
Anaheim 5, Nashville 2: Corey Perry notched his 22nd goal and added an assist to lead the Ducks’ attack at home. Ryan Getzlaf and Chris Kunitz also had a goal and an assist as Anaheim paid -190.
