NHL Free Agency Update

We've got the latest on NHL Free agency. (AP Images)

There isn’t much to report in this week’s NHL free agency update, but we can always look at the rumor mill.

Coveted sniper Ilya Kovalchuk has yet to sign a deal, but supposedly he’s weighing three different options—the Kings, Devils and a KHL club. There’s little concrete info to report on this front. One newspaper reported Kovie having 50-50 odds to ink a deal with Los Angeles, while another says the Kings are “closing in on a contract.”

Beyond Kovalchuk, what’s left to look at in free agency? There are still several solid, veteran goaltenders on the market, including Marty Turco and Jose Theodore. There’s little doubt a contender thin in goal will make a run at one of them—it’s just a matter of when.

A few big-name bargains can be had at forward. Teemu Selanne may offer up his services again, while Alexander Frolov is loaded with potential.
