NHL Hockey: Best of the Preseason

With all the football going on, it is easy to forget that hockey season is ready to go. With preseason games starting tonight, the NHL will be back in full swing before you know it.

The first game of the preseason will feature the Florida Panthers against the Vancouver Canucks, with seven more games going tomorrow night.

There has already been one major deal to speak of.

The Ottawa Senators on Saturday traded Dany Heatley to San Jose for forwards Jonathan Cheechoo and Milan Michalek, a deal that also involves an exchange of draft picks.

The Senators play in San Jose on Dec. 1 but the Sharks won’t visit Ottawa until next season - unless the two teams meet in the Stanley Cup final in June.

The start of the regular season is on Oct. 1. The Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Blues will open in Sweden, while the Florida Panthers and Chicago Blackhawks start in Finland.
