Despite being twice rejected by Dany Heatley, the Edmonton Oilers still haven’t given up trying to acquire the Ottawa sniper.

Edmonton originally offered Dustin Penner, Andrew Cogliano and Ladislav Smid, but the Senators’ asking price went up when Ottawa had to pay Heatley a $4 million advance on his $8 million salary on July 1.

Even though he will have to pony up more cash, or take one of Ottawa’s unwanted contracts back in the deal, Edmonton general manager Steve Tambellini said he is still very interested in making a deal with the Senators.

Heatley still has not made any public comments explaining himself, six weeks after his trade request. So if there was a reason other than his disenchantment with coach Cory Clouston, it remains a mystery.

The Oilers could certainly use Heatley's scoring punch as they are only listed at +4000 to win the Cup next season.
