As if the Pittsburgh Penguins needed any more firepower.
A team already boasting the likes of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Petr Sykora certainly doesn't need any help putting the puck in the net. But that's exactly what it got at the trade deadline.
In the biggest blockbuster on a day where 22 deals were negotiated, Pittsburgh got Marian Hossa and Pascal Dupuis from Atlanta in exchange for Colby Armstrong, Aaron Christensen, Angelo Esposito and a first-round draft pick.
The 29-year-old Hossa is a former All-Star who has 638 points in 689 career games. Since being traded to Atlanta from Ottawa, Hossa has formed a dynamic scoring combination with Russian sniper Ilya Kovalchuck. The two were lethal together on the power play and carried the Thrashers to their first playoff appearance in franchise history a year ago. This season, Hossa had 26 goals and 30 assists in 60 games played.
The Penguins gave up a lot of young talent in exchange for the dynamic scorer. Armstrong and Christensen are two highly-touted prospects while Esposito was a first round pick in 2007.
