One thing is certain come Selection Sunday: the Memphis Tigers will be the No. 1 seed in the South Region.
The Tigers finished off a near-perfect regular season with a 77-51 victory over Tulsa in Saturday’s Conference USA championship game in Memphis, Tenn.
Led by 19 points from unsung hero Antonio Anderson, the second-ranked team in the country closed the deal on their third straight conference crown. The victory was the 42nd in a row against C-USA opponents.
John Calipari’s team also covered the massive point spread, which was 17.
Memphis finished the season 33-1 with the only loss coming to in-state rival Tennessee in a non-conference game in February. The Tigers will begin the run to what they hope is a championship on either Thursday or Friday, when the first round of March Madness begins.
In other conference championship action in college hoops on Saturday afternoon:
UMBC 82, Hartford 65: Maryland-Baltimore County finished off the America East title with a flourish en route to its first NCAA Tournament appearance. Darryl Proctor scored 23 points for the Retrievers (24-8). UMBC was favored by nine points in Catonsville, Md.
