PGA Odds: Transitions Championship

This week’s PGA Tour stop for the Transitions Championship in Palm Harbor, Fla., (outside of Tampa) is getting overshadowed not only in its own sport by Tiger Woods’ announcement this week that he will return to golf at the Masters but also by the start of the NCAA Tournament. But we know there are die-hard golf bettors out there, so let’s look at the favorites on Bodog’s golf odds.
While Tiger and Phil Mickelson aren’t playing this week at the Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead Course – one of the favorites of players on Tour – there is a pretty good field with four of the world’s Top 10 players, led by No. 2 and Bodog betting favorite Steve Stricker. The American has opened at 12/1 this week. He already has one win on Tour this season and finished fourth at this tournament last year, while leading the field in birdies, and 14th the year before.
South African Retief Goosen loves playing Innisbrook, having won this tournament last year and in 2003 (K.J. Choi is the only other two-time winner in the field). In 2009, Goosen closed with 1-under 70 to avoid a playoff with Brett Quigley and Charles Howell III and win his first tournament in four years. Goosen hasn’t won since but has three Top-6 finishes already on Tour this year.
Padraig Harrington enters off his best finish on Tour this year with a tie for third last week at Doral, where he putted very well. Harrington, who spent St. Patrick’s Day at the White House with President Obama (thus no practice round), still hasn’t won since the 2008 PGA Championship. The Irishman, playing this event for the first time, is the co-Bodog second-favorite this week at 20/1.
If you are looking for a longer shot to bet on, consider Sean O’Hair. He won here in 2008 and hasn’t missed a cut in 2010. Last week he closed with a stellar 66 at Doral, so maybe he has his game right where it needs to be. O’Hair is 28/1 this week on Bodog’s golf odds to win.
