Prolonged NFL Preseason Schedule to Blame for Player Injuries?

Every year the same question comes up about NFL preseason and training camp: Is it to blame for so many injuries?
You can easily argue it both ways. One, it is a good warm up for players to get ready for the regular season and to get in game shape. Without a lengthy preseason schedule some players may not be as prepared as they should.
On the other hand you can say of course the preseason schedule is to blame for so many injuries. Players might not be taking it as serious as they should and that is when a major injury can occur.
But in football you can't play hoping to not get hurt. That is not the nature of the sport. You have to go all-out, otherwise your opponent will run you over.
It is up to coaches to walk that fine line of knowing how much to play someone before using the reserves.
