It only took six games in the Majors before the Rays decided Evan Longoria was the real deal.

The Tampa Bay Rays have reached a six-year contract worth $44 million dollars with Longoria.

The Rays drafted Longoria third overall in the 2006 MLB amateur draft and were seemingly impressed by his showing so far since calling him up from Triple-A Durham last Saturday. He's batted .300 with one homerun, four runs and three RBIs for the Rays so far.

"First of all, I like being here," Longoria said. "It's an enjoyable place to live and play. Why not be here and be part of the nucleus of the team, the core group of young guys?"

Longoria is currently batting fifth on Tampa Bay's roster.
