Once top-ranked light heavyweight Maurcio "Shogun" Rua (16-3-0) has pulled out of his fight with Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell (21-5-0) due to a knee injury suffered while training for their upcoming fight at UFC 85.
Now, instead of stepping into the octagon to face "The Iceman" on June 7 in London, England, Rua will go back to the operating room for a second time to repair a damaged ACL in his left knee.
Rua underwent surgery to repair the same ligament last year, after losing to Forrest Griffin (15-4-0) at UFC 76: Knockout.
While Rua is coming off a loss and looking to rebound, Liddell is hoping to add another win to his record after defeating Wanderlei Silva (31-8-1) at UFC 79: Nemesis in December. The fight marked the end of a 2-fight losing streak for "The Iceman" who lost to both Keith Jardine (13-3-1) and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (29-6-0) in 2007.
Liddell is still expected to headline his next event, although a new opponent has not been announced.
