On Saturday, March 1 in Columbus, Ohio, UFC champion Anderson Silva (23-4-0) showed why he was the favorite in the Bodog Sportsbookby choking out former Pride middleweight champ Dan Henderson (22-7-0) in the second round.
The fight started off rough for Silva as, in the first round, Henderson scored a takedown and looked like he would give "The Spider" some trouble. Silva came back with a fury in the second round, though, out-striking Henderson on the feet before reversing a takedown to land in the top position. From there, Henderson was lost and turned his back in desperation. Moments later, Silva sunk in a choke hold, forcing Henderson to tap out.
In the undercard, heavyweight Heath Herring (28-13-0 ) squeaked out a split decision over French giant Cheick Kongo (11-4-1) in a fight that saw both goliaths trading takedowns, submission attempts and big strikes. Wrestler Josh Koscheck (10-2-0) showed impressive ability, taking out jiu-jitsu fighter Dustin Hazelett (10-4-0). Meanwhile, fan favorite Chris Leben (18-4-0) out-punched boxer Alessio Sakara (12-7-0) to win by TKO in the first round.
In his return to the octagon, former UFC middleweight champion Evan Tanner (32-7-0) lost to Yushin Okami (22-4-0) when the fast-rising Japanese star landed a solid knee, knocking Tanner out in the second round.
