Slew's Tizzy a Kentucky Derby Scratch?

Lexington Stakes winner Slew's Tizzy trainer Greg Fox made a statement Wednesday saying that they are “very much leaning toward not running" the colt in the May 5 Kentucky Derby.

"The horse is doing great, but unless something radically changes in the next day or two, we have pretty much decided against running," Fox, a licensed veterinarian, said from his farm adjacent to the Thoroughbred Training Center in Lexington, Ky. "We expect to make a firm decision by Friday."

As the Kentucky Derby is limited to the top 20 entrants based on graded earnings, Slew's Tizzy withdrawal from the derby would mean that a slot would open for Teuflesberg to run in the race, as the colt is ranked 21st among horses considered Kentucky Derby contenders.

Teuflesberg trainer Jamie Sanders entered the colt into this Saturday's Derby Trial Stakes at Churchill Downs, but if there are defections from the Derby field before Saturday, Sanders says that Teuflesberg would be scratched from the Derby Trial to run in the Kentucky Derby.

"If I can get into the Derby, I'm going to run him," Sanders said.

Next in line following Teuflesberg, is Imawildandcrazyguy on the list to make the field.
