Stanford Nerds Beat Cornell Nerds
Robin Lopez and the Stanford Cardinal were head and shoulders better than Cornell. (AP Images)
Dear Memphis and Texas,
See that? Yeah, we're good. Not to worry though. Perhaps after we beat you in the 2008 NCAA tournament, we will consider hiring you to sort the mail at our internet start-up.
Regards,
Stanford
PS - Cornell really sucks.
And we second that postscript after watching Stanford destroy the Cornell Big Red 77-53 in Anaheim. It's not often a team easily covers a 15.5-point spread, but that was the case today.
The Big Red might have dominated the Ivy League but it turns out the Pac-10 is not the Ivy League. Cornell found that out early and by halftime were trailing 38-17. When Stanford blocked shot after shot after shot, its opponent responded by throwing up brick after brick after airball. Cornell ended the day shooting just over 30 percent from the floor, thanks to a couple last-minute field goals. But for most of the game, it was ugly out there.
Kenny Brown led Stanford with 18 points while Robin Lopez added 14 points on 7-for-9 shooting.
Louis Dale had 10 points and was Cornell's top scorer.
The third seed in the South region, Stanford moves on to play No. 6 Marquette on Saturday.
