Cris Santos knocked out Gina Carano with less than a second left in the first round to capture the vacant 145-pound women's championship at the Strikeforce MMA card Saturday night.

Quick knockouts were the story of the night at Strikeforce's first card since adding heavyweight superstar Fedor Emelianenko. Six of the nine fights on the card were decided in the first round, including the much-publicized meeting between two of the best women fighters on the planet.

Gilbert Melendez retained the interim lightweight championship with a decisive TKO win over Mitsuhiro Ishida.

Fabricio Werdrum also looked impressive, needing just 1:24 to submit Mike Kyle.

On the undercard, Jay Hieron earned a unanimous decision over Jesse Taylor, Scott Lighty used strikes to subdue Mike Cook, Justin Wilcox submitted David Douglas via rear naked choke, James Terry knocked out Zac Bucia, and Alex Trevino used a key lock to submit Isiah Hill.
