The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Arizona Cardinals 27-23 at Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa; Arizona cashed in as a 7-point underdog (-130), and the final score topped the 47-point total.
Unlike last year, the books didn’t take much of a bath. The Steelers pulled in plenty of action from the betting public over the weekend, and the last-minute winning touchdown by Santonio Holmes prevented the Cards from cashing in at +170 on the moneyline.
In the props market, the biggest news is that the Super Bowl produced a safety (+650) for the first time since 1991. Arizona QB Kurt Warner threw for 377 yards to break Joe Montana’s all-time Super Bowl record of 1,142 yards and pull in a +375 payday. And leading off the more entertainment-minded prop bets, Jennifer Hudson’s version of The Star-Spangled Banner went over 2:01 (-210).
