It's built in the middle of nowhere, but it sure beats the last one.

University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., is the site of Super Bowl XLII. And though it might be a bit of a drive for many in the Phoenix area to get there, as far as professional sports facilities are concerned, this one's a gem.

Bet on the Super Bowl!

University of Phoenix Stadium opened in 2006 and replaced Sun Devil Stadium (and its piping-hot metal bleachers) as the new home of the Arizona Cardinals. It's also home to the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

Here are a few facts about the 2008 Super Bowl venue:

  • It cost $455 million to build.
  • Its capacity is 65,000 (expandable to 73,719)
  • There are 88 luxury boxes
  • It has a retractable roof made out of a transluscent fabric
  • The playing surface is natural grass, which rolls outside when not in use
