It was one of the closest decisions the UFC has seen in years. On Wednesday, Jan. 23 in Las Vegas, Nev., Mike "Quick" Swick (11-2-0) won a thin majority decision over Josh Burkman (9-5-0) at UFC Fight Night.

Dropping from the 185-pound division to fight Burkman in the welterweight class, Swick was unable to land the crisp combinations that became his trademark in the middleweight category. Instead, he spent the majority of the match against the fence as Burkman bulled in for takedown attempts. Swick rocked Burkman twice in the fight, once with a punch and once with a kick, but failed to score a knockout in his 170-pound debut.

In other action, Canadian Patrick Cote (12-4-0) lived up to his promise and KO'd Iowa fighter Drew McFedries (6-3-0) in the first round of their middleweight brawl.

UFC contract winner Nate Diaz (8-2-0), Brazilian standout Thiago Tavares (17-1-0) and jiu-jitsu black belt Kurt Pellegrino (11-3-0) also won their fights.
