The Butler Did it: Bulldogs Beat South Alabama

Yeah, maybe guard the three point line.

That's the memo that Southern Alabama didn't get Friday, as the Butler Bulldogs launched and launched and launched...and saw most of them ripple mesh.

Butler hit 15 three pointers in an 81-61 rout where Bulldogs F Pete Campbell went off for 26 points, including eight makes from the land beyond and a buzzer-beater at the end of the first half. With the win, the Bulldogs scored a school-record 30th win of the season and showed to many they're a legit challenger in the East Region.

On the same day where mid-major darlings Gonzaga and Drake were bounced from the tourney, Butler stood up for the middle guy and trounced a Jaguars team many had pegged as a sleeper pick. While their berth to the tournament was controversial, nobody questioned that South Alabama was a talented squad with a degree of athleticism similar to that of a major program. Daon Merritt had 14 points in a losing effort.
