The PGA will have to get used to life without Tiger.

The world's No. 1 player announced today that he'll be undergoing major knee surgery, an operation that will force him to miss the remainder of the 2008 golf season.

Woods said on his Web site that he will have surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament. He also wrote that he needs time to rehabilitate a double stress fracture of his left tibia, which he said was discovered just before the Memorial Tournament in late May.

Despite the knee issues, Tiger put forth a remarkable performance at the recently-completed U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, playing 91 holes of golf before beating Rocco Mediate in a sudden-death playoff. Having never missed a major championship in his career, Woods will now be absent for the British Open in July, the PGA Championship in August as well as the Ryder Cup.
