West Virgnia got 22 points from Joe Alexander as they defeated Providence 58-53. Da'Sean Butler was the Mountaineers' second leading scorer with 17.
It's amazing the game was ever this close as only one Providence player posted double digits, Weyinmi Efejuku, who had 12.
The game was fairly close throughout, but West Virginia was able to hold Providence to two field goals in seven minutes to seal the victory.
Despite the win, West Virginia wasn't able to cover the 8.5-point spread in the Bodog Sportsbook.
They face UConn next in Thursday's quarterfinals.
