Wimbledon Results: Serena Suffers Strain, Moves On

Serena Williams suffered an injury but won at Wimbledon (AP IMages)

After battling a badly strained calf muscle early in her match with Daniela Hantuchova, Serena Williams gutted out a rain-delayed victory 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 at Wimbledon today.

The grey English summer weather was most definitely Serena’s friend, a rain delay coming with the match tied at 6-6 in the second set. Returning heavily taped and apparently well hydrated, Williams took advantage of the rest and her opponents apparent nerves to put the tilt away.

At one point after the break Williams requested to use the bathroom, a request denied by umpire Kader Nouni.

"I've been drinking a lot of liquids, so I have to use the bathroom," Williams said to Nouni. "I can't go on a changeover? It won't take me long. I have to use the bathroom. I can't use the bathroom?"

No dice on a potty break but Williams does win, advancing to defend her title against top-ranked Justine Henin in the quarterfinals.
