Georgia looked like they still had the hot hand to start March Madness after rattling off four in a row to win the SEC. They finished the first half of their game against Xavier up nine and shooting 54 percent from the field.
In the second half, however, Xavier used lock-down D to cut the lead to just four with under 10 minutes to play and eventually took its first lead at the 7:23 mark.
Georgia would not give up despite scoring just three points in nearly nine minutes of play. It cut the lead to just three down the stretch but the Xavier defense, not to mention the referees, proved too much for the Bulldogs.
Xavier knocked down 27-33 from the charity stripe while Georgia was just 3-5.
Forward Derrick Brown led the Musketeers with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Xavier covered the -9-point spread with the 73-61 win.
