In an offense-filled matchup that saw a combined 31 hits and 23 runs, it was the New York Yankee's Johnny Damon who stole the show, even if he was just barely the best player on the day.

Damon erupted for six hits in just six at bats Saturday, including a game-ending single in the ninth that propelled the Yanks to a 12-11 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

Twice New York trailed by four runs and twice they stormed back to eventually win the game, but not because of a lack of effort from Royals outfielder Jose Guillen. Guillen, who had it not been for Damon, would be getting his fair share of media attention after hitting for two home runs on the night including a grand slam in the seventh inning that put the Royals up 10-6. Guillen finished the game with seven RBIs.

Elsewhere in Major League Baseball this afternoon the Boston Red Sox pounded the Seattle Mariners, Blue Jays starting pitcher AJ Burnett once again gave up early runs leading to an eventual loss, the Dodgers came back to beat the Cubs, and the Detroit Tigers used a six-run eighth inning to seal the deal against Cleveland.
