Steve Davidowitz

Steve Davidowitz, author of The Best and Worst of Thoroughbred Racing, has been a professional handicapper, reporter, editor, columnist and consultant to newspapers, magazines and Internet websites for more than three decades. He also wrote the influential and best-selling handicapping book, Betting Thoroughbreds for the 21St Century, (DRF Press, 2009), which has sold more than 180,000 copies worldwide in three editions and 13 printings.A highly touted baseball star at Rutgers University, Davidowitz began his interest in horse-racing when a bookmaker gave him a copy of the 1959 American Racing Manual. Ironically, Davidowitz eventually would be commissioned to bring that prestigious racing encyclopedia back to print as ARM’s Editor in Chief from 2000-2003. An active and successful horseplayer, Steve has contributed op-ed columns and investigative reports for The New York Times; was Executive Editor of Turf and Sport Digest Magazine; helped design racing pages for six major market newspapers. Steve also has written hundreds of features and columns about the game’s greatest races and stars as well as numerous columns on racing issues from the player’s perspective.
Steve currently lives in Las Vegas and is the CEO-Editor in Chief of the popular horseplayer website www.GradeOneRacing.com from which he often extracts insightful workout information for his blog posts and feature articles

By Steve Davidowitz | The scratching of I’LL HAVE ANOTHER from the 2012 Belmont Stakes instantly has depressed the historical significance of the 144-year-old classic race.

Apparently, the Derby-Preakness winner was injured while acting up in his unfamiliar stall in the detention barn that was set up last week for Belmont horses by the New York State Racing and Wagering Board.

By Steve Davidowitz | Obviously at the top of the year's best stories is I'LL HAVE ANOTHER, who is bidding to become the 12th Triple Crown winner in horse racing history. Not many who follow the sport had any awareness of this horse and all but a few who saw him perform first hand at Santa Anita probably dismissed him as a Kentucky Derby contender even after he won his seasonal debut in the Robert Lewis Stakes at 43-1 in February.
